The Freshman Cup and Retrospect

Image
On 10/29, we participated in the Freshman Cup competition. Initially, we set up the field, tested the machine, and carried out a series of pre-match preparations. With a mix of nervousness and excitement, we embarked on numerous matches. Each match yielded different results, providing us with valuable insights and highlighting areas for improvement in our machine. In the afternoon, we proceeded to form alliances based on rankings. We were delighted to join forces with @frc_7709 and @jh_tech.2th, forming the second alliance and navigating the competition together. After multiple rounds of intense competition, we ultimately secured the runner-up position. Following the Freshman Cup, we conducted a review meeting where each team identified areas for improvement. Issues such as low work efficiency, unclear rules, and imprecise inspections were discussed. Through these discussions, we believe that addressing these shortcomings will enhance our competition experience, help us recognize o...

0910~0930 FRESHMAN CUP

Image
In the past few weeks, we worked hard to make our robots for Freshman Cup. The hardware and software group have been mainly busy with the Freshman Cup. In the past few days, members in the hardware group have stayed to discuss and assemble the robot at noon and after class. Some members are responsible for sawing aluminum. Some members are responsible for measuring the length of the tread, some are responsible for assembling it, and some are responsible for connecting the wires. You can see their perfect division of labor and cooperation, and the degree of completion is getting higher and higher day by day, and it is almost completed now. Students in the software group are studying Limelight, image recognition, Wpilib function library, and improvements to the Swerve chassis program to increase their programming skills and enhance their programming capabilities. They hope that they can come in handy in future competitions and help the team. Get the win. The administrative team did not p...

0922 PARENTS-MEMBERS MEETING

Image
Last week, the team held a parent briefing on results and new season. The purpose was to let parents better understand what the team is doing and what their children can gain by joining this team. By the way, we would like to introduce the environment and operation model here, and we hope parents can provide more support and assistance in planning for the following seasons. For this event, each group spent a lot of time making briefings and planning time, hoping to communicate clearly with parents. At the beginning, the director was asked to open the meeting, and then the team leaders of hardware, software, and administration were asked to take the stage to introduce the work content of each group, what they learned, and the spiritual changes and growth. Finally, we showed them some of our works, including the operation of this year's participating robots and chassis, and took them to visit the training room. We believe that after this parent-members meeting, parents can...

Supporting Hawaii's Recovery: FRC 8725 Response to the 2023 Wildfire Tragedy

Image
We are Misty Panther, the FRC team representing Nanshan High School. Our team was established during the summer of 2021, with members chosen from grades 9 to 12 within the school. On August 8, an unexpected wildfire ravaged the Hawaiian island of Maui in the United States, resulting in the destruction of local homes and the loss of lives. In the aftermath, all that remained were ashes and debris. By August 14, these wildfires had caused significant devastation in Hawaii. Our team deeply regrets these events and has created a video uploaded to YouTube to convey our heartfelt concern for this tragedy. Below is a link to the video we shot  https://youtu.be/vYvvQG2_GNE?si=Y0z8Hsi46WiKrrEl In 2023, we participated in Hawaii regional and had the opportunity to connect with teams from the area. It was during August that we came across the distressing news. The images featured in the news were truly alarming. The landscape had been reduced to charred remains, and numerous individuals had s...

0819 CNC STUDY CAMP

Image
On August 19th, we participated in a CNC study camp. The lecturer began by personally demonstrating step-by-step procedures using an electronic whiteboard, teaching us how to use the Ucancam software, how to configure various functions, and how to design CNC cutting paths. Subsequently, the lecturer grouped us together and guided us in operating the machine. He took the time to explain the functions of each button on the remote control and provided explanations for why these settings were necessary, highlighting the potential consequences if they were not correctly configured. Finally, he offered us careful reminders and safety instructions to ensure that we could use the CNC machine correctly and safely. Following this, the lecturer led the groups that had used Ucancam to draw CNC cutting paths, saved the files onto USB drives, and conducted hands-on operations with the machine. This practical experience not only helped us understand how to operate the machine but also allowed us to w...

0814~0818 SUMMER CAMP

Image
We held a week-long summer camp from August 14th to August 18th, and it has just come to an end. The purpose of organizing this summer camp was to provide newbies with the opportunity to learn basic fabrication skills and to further familiarize them with FRC. On the first day, senior students played an instructional video about the competition, followed by a detailed explanation of the rules. Each new student then formed a group of about three to four people and began discussing and drawing up design, and create a robot capable of meeting the mission requirements. Since most newbies were creating a robot for the first time, encountering challenges was inevitable. However, after discussions with senior students, the newbies gradually learned how to overcome those problems. All the groups successfully completed their robots by the final day and joined in an exciting competition. During the competition, each group made their best efforts to control their robots and put wooden blocks into ...
