Supporting Hawaii's Recovery: FRC 8725 Response to the 2023 Wildfire Tragedy

We are Misty Panther, the FRC team representing Nanshan High School. Our team was established during the summer of 2021, with members chosen from grades 9 to 12 within the school.

On August 8, an unexpected wildfire ravaged the Hawaiian island of Maui in the United States, resulting in the destruction of local homes and the loss of lives. In the aftermath, all that remained were ashes and debris. By August 14, these wildfires had caused significant devastation in Hawaii. Our team deeply regrets these events and has created a video uploaded to YouTube to convey our heartfelt concern for this tragedy.

In 2023, we participated in Hawaii regional and had the opportunity to connect with teams from the area. It was during August that we came across the distressing news. The images featured in the news were truly alarming. The landscape had been reduced to charred remains, and numerous individuals had suffered injuries or lost their lives. We earnestly hope for a swift recovery of Hawaii, with minimal harm to its residents. We are eager to provide assistance to those facing hardships. 0910～0930 FRESHMAN CUP

In the past few weeks, we worked hard to make our robots for Freshman Cup. The hardware and software group have been mainly busy with the Freshman Cup. In the past few days, members in the hardware group have stayed to discuss and assemble the robot at noon and after class. Some members are responsible for sawing aluminum. Some members are responsible for measuring the length of the tread, some are responsible for assembling it, and some are responsible for connecting the wires. You can see their perfect division of labor and cooperation, and the degree of completion is getting higher and higher day by day, and it is almost completed now. Students in the software group are studying Limelight, image recognition, Wpilib function library, and improvements to the Swerve chassis program to increase their programming skills and enhance their programming capabilities. Build Season Week 3 and 4

In the third and fourth weeks of the season, the hardware and software teams collaborated, addressing issues through multiple discussions and adjustments. After resolving the problems, we tested the functionalities of the shooter and intake on the actual field. The engineering notes for the hardware section are largely complete, and the shooter assembly, having been assembled, is now undergoing improvements. Currently, we have produced three robots. Simultaneously, the administrative team is organizing various PR materials and assisting the hardware and software teams. Through continuous experimentation and enhancement of robot functionalities, we aim to progress and grow continually, striving to design and create even better robots.
